International Commerce
The Netherlands plays a pivotal role on the international trade import, export and transit markets, with many Dutch firms doing business abroad and at least as many foreign firms active on the Dutch market or in collaboration with Dutch businesses. But which rules apply to international commerce? The attorneys and civil-law notaries of our ‘International Commerce’ sector group can provide you with clear and practical advice in this field, as well as offer you support in the case of conflicts or even the initiation of proceedings. Dijkstra Voermans collaborates with specialists abroad to provide this service.
International rules
Our International Commerce specialists are familiar with the regulations established in Brussels and know how they are to be applied in practice. In many cases, you can choose which legal system applies or regulate certain areas yourself, but did you know that retention of title, for example, is much more restricted under Dutch law than German law? In many cases, you can designate the body authorised to make a ruling in the case of conflict, but does a ruling from the Dutch courts hold any weight in a conflict with, for example, an American customer? Or is resolving matters by means of arbitration a better solution?
With regards to international commerce, it is crucial that you lay down arrangements in writing. We can support you in setting up and organising your international joint ventures.
